- A fantastic recording experience at Babajim studios in Istanbul! For the third Bombay dub orchestra record, we decided to add Istanbul to our travel itinerary. On our first two albums we'd recorded in Mumbai (Bombay) and Chennai (Madras) and this time we wanted to experiment with some middle eastern sounds too. Babajim is by far the best studio in Istanbul and we were treated to four days of consistently wonderful recordings.

All the staff were incredibly helpful and much to our relief all the engineers spoke English. This was incredibly useful when my partner Andrew was conducting the string players and also when we had to discuss ideas with soloists.

The studios are well equipped and most importantly the engineers really know how to record the instruments and how to get the best sound out of the rooms. Melis, the studio manager, dealt with all our musician needs. We worked in both studios using the in house Pro tools rigs and everything went really smoothly. We actually used less hours than we'd booked every day.

The studio is in a vibey part of town and there are loads of places to eat and drink near by. Lots of restaurants stay open late which is great if you're finishing at midnight and want to unwind over a few beers and some food.
